The tongue

Forster, on the mid-north coast of NSW, is by no stretch of the imagination a fun town. In fact, it's really bloody dull. Thanks, then, to Father Kevin Corrigan for helping to liven things up a little.

Boomerang magic

Last week saw some good south swell arrive on the mid-north coast. The only local spot which was working was South Boomerang, but the paddle out looked fairly horrendous, unless you were willing to rockhop and jump off the end of the reef. Wearing flippers this isn't really an option.

So I contented myself with taking some photos of the action from the lookout. I was interested to see how well my new lens, a 70-300mm Sigma, would cope. I wish I had had it at some of the demos in Palestine during the last few months. With it I could have photographed the Israeli troops from a greater distance, and not have had to risk getting up close to get the shots I wanted. (And I wouldn't have got the shots I didn't want i.e. rubber bullets fired in my direction).

I was pleased with the results. To bring the subject up really close from this distance I would have needed a 500mm lens, at least, but with the Sigma the resolution is good enough for me to crop and enlarge the photo in the computer with quite acceptable results.
